Thanks to everyone who attended the 2008 AFAA Food Allergy Conference & Exposition. We invite you to attend next year's conference in the spring of 2009.
The Anaphylaxis & Food Allergy Association of Minnesota (AFAA) will host its 2008 Food Allergy Conference and Exposition on Saturday, April 5th at the University of Minnesota Radisson Hotel in Minneapolis. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., and the conference runs from 9-4. The Radisson is located at 615 Washington Avenue SE in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The conference is open to families with food allergies, nurses, doctors, teachers, dietitians, school administrators, and food service employees.
The keynote speaker is Lynda Mitchell, the founder and president of the national organization, Kids With Food Allergies (KFA). KFA is an online support organization, and one of the largest food allergy organizations in the United States. Other presenters will include allergy and asthma doctors, non-profit directors, dietitians, and teachers.
Sessions topics will include Food Allergy Basics; Food Labeling; Food Allergy Research Update; Nutritional Challenges; Asthma & Rhinitis; School Safety; Eczema & Hives; an "Ask the Doctors" Panel; a Panel for Dietitians; and more. This conference provides 3 additional learning options:
- The conference will also offer sessions specifically for Food Allergy Support Group Leaders, such as "Running a Successful and Effective Group" and will provide an opportunity to network with other Group Leaders.
- Also available will be Speaker's Training sessions for those wanting to give food allergy presentations in the future. Upon completion of the sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to join AFAA's Speakers' Bureau.
- Allergists will provide a session specifically for medical professionals (pediatricians, general practitioners, nurses, etc.) on testing, diagnosing, treatment, and referral decisions.
This conference offers the unique feature of a product Exposition: Vendors from various companies across North America and overseas will have tables at the conference, with samples, information, and door prizes.
Pre-registration is $60 for an individual; $75 for a family;
CEU credits (5.0) for nurses or teachers or dietitians are an additional $75.
Pre-registration for the Medical Professionals Presentation, Speakers' Training,
and Support Leaders' Sessions are an additional $75 (all include lunch).
(Medical Professionals Presentation provides an additional 1.0 CEU for nurses.)
